Students receive guidance throughout the college essay writing process from brainstorming and choosing a topic to outlining, drafting, revision, and final polishing. Coaching is available for Common App personal statements, supplemental essays, UC Personal Insight Questions (PIQs), BS/MD essays, and other college application writing.

The goal is not simply to edit an essay. It is to help each student identify meaningful experiences, tell specific stories, reflect on what those experiences reveal about them, and develop an essay that adds something new to the rest of their application.

I have worked as a university professor and writing tutor for more than 10 years, teaching composition, literature, and creative writing and helping students develop stronger, more personal writing. Today, my work focuses on one-on-one college essay coaching.

My approach treats the college essay as more than a writing assignment. I help students identify the experiences and stories that best reveal who they are, then guide them through brainstorming, outlining, drafting, reflection, revision, and final polishing. Rather than writing essays for students or imposing a formula, I help them develop an essay that sounds like them and adds a meaningful dimension to their application.

My own experience includes earning a Fulbright scholarship, graduate study in English and education, university teaching, and years of individual writing instruction. That background shapes the way I work with students: combining storytelling, careful revision, and close attention to each student's goals and voice.

Whether a student is starting with a blank page, trying to choose between several essay ideas, or revising an existing draft, the goal is the same: create a clear, specific, story-driven college essay that the student can feel confident submitting.
